A grass fire forced students at Chico Elementary School to evacuate to another campus Wednesday, Aug. 12. All students and staff are safe, and officials have not yet said what caused the fire. The fire comes as parts of North Texas face an elevated fire threat, with triple-digit heat, low humidity and wind gusts reaching up to 30 to 35 mph. Officials are urging people to stay fire-aware and avoid anything that could spark a fire.

The incident on Thursday involved a car theft suspect, with Dallas police saying one of its officers opened fire on the suspect. Investigators found a loaded handgun inside the stolen Porsche. Additional evidence recovered from the vehicle is being examined as part of several ongoing violent crime investigations. McFadden is currently charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Hector Vicente Paguada Paguada. He is accused of capital murder in the shooting deaths of 55-year-old Juana Medina Rodriguez and 23-year-old Nayeli Bolanos Medina.
